Christian Bale, incarnant la chauve-souris pendant une trilogie entière, a refusé de renfiler une quatrième fois le costume du célèbre justicier. Il pensait qu'il était temps et préférable de changer d'acteur, de visage et de renouveler l'image de Batman.
A 41 ans, B.Affleck a récemment connu un succès immense grâce à son film Argo qui a reçu nombre de récompenses :

-Oscar du meilleur film
-Oscar du meilleur scénario adapté
-Oscar du meilleur montage
Avant ce succès Ben Affleck n'était pas dans les plus grosses productions hollywoodiennes; il était même un peu hors-circuit par moments.
Nombreuses sont les pétitions qui circulent sur le net avoisinant les 80 000 signatures. Voici quelques raisons :

Beaucoup d'acteurs (contrairement aux fans de Batman) prennent sa défense dont Matt Damon, ami de longue date de Ben, et Michael Keaton, qui avait incarné pendant un temps Batman.
