Les Hauts de Hurlevent / Wuthering Heights - Emily Brontë

              Les Hauts de Hurlevent est son unique roman. C'est un livre qui a quand même choqué à l'époque à cause de la noirceur des personnages. Il comporte beaucoup de personnages donc je vais essayer de faire le plus simple possible pour vous raconter l'histoire.

             Mr Earnshaw a deux enfants: Hindley et Catherine. Il adopte un troisième enfant: Heathcilff. Lui et Hindley se détestent alors qu'avec Catherine c'est plutôt l'inverse. Ils développent des sentiments l'un envers l'autre. Cependant, Catherine décide d'épouser un homme riche prénommé Edgar Linton. De cette union naît Cathy provoquant également la mort Catherine. Résultat, Heathcliff veut se venger. Il prend possession des Hauts de Hurlevent, un endroit lugudre, sinistre, séduit la soeur d'Edgar ( il la maltraite donc elle s'enfuit). De cette union naît un fils Linton (je tiens à préciser qu'Edgar meurt aussi).
Heathcliff, va faire en sorte que Cathy et Linton se marient ou du moins il l'oblige à l'épouser et la retient prisonnière de force. D'autres péripéties interviennent (mais elles seraient un peu trop longues à expliquer), l'essentiel étant de retenir qu'Heathcliff finit par abandonner sa vengeance. Il agit de plus en plus bizarrement et meurt quelque temps plus tard. Il a enfin trouver la paix et son spectre ainsi que celui de Catherine errent depuis ce jour sur la lande.

          

             J'ai beaucoup aimé ce livre même s'il y a énormément de romance. Elle n'est pas amenée, présente comme quelque chose à "l'eau de rose". Et c'est pourquoi j'ai accroché de suite car on a une certaine complexité dans la situation, les personnages se cachent de révéler leur véritable nature... De plus, pour une fois un roman d'amour se termine mal. C'est ce qu'il y a de plus intéressant je trouve.

PS : Il faut quand même apprécier le "romantisme" pour lire un ouvrage tel que celui-ci sinon l'ennui vous guette....

Emily Brontë is a Britsh writer and poet of the 19th century. You probably have heard her sisters: Charlotte (Jane Eyre) and Anne (Agnes Grey).

        Wuthering Heights is her unique novel. It is a book which shocked at that time because of the darkness of the characters. It contains many characters thus I am going to try to make the simplest as possible to tell you the story.

      Mr Earnshaw has two children: Hindley and Catherine. He adopts a third one: Heathcilff. He and Hindley hate each other while with Catherine it is rather the opposite. They develop feelings for each other. However, Catherine decides to marry a rich man named Edgar Linton. Of this union is born Cathy also causing (btw) the death of Catherine. As a result, Heathcliff wants to take revenge. He buys Wuthering Heights, a gloomy, sinister place, seduces Edgar's sister (he mistreats her so she runs away). Of this union is born a son Linton (I want to specify that Edgar also dies).  He acts more and more strangely and dies some time later. He finally found the peace and his spectre as well as Catherine's one roam for this day on the moor.

        I really loved this book even if there's a great deal of romance. This one, is not brought, present as something sentimental, snappy, mushy. And that is why I got in straightaway  because we have a certain complexity in the situation, the characters hide to reveal their real nature... Furthermore, for once a love novel ends badly. It's what I find the most interesting thing here ! 

PS: It's necessary though to appreciate the "romanticism" to read a work such as this one; otherwise you'll get bored !
